I just read Wayne Wiegand's paper, <a href="http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:mchx6cp_EBsJ:www.gslis.utexas.edu/~landc/fulltext/LandC_33_2_Wiegand.pdf+%22earliest+evidence+of+the+dewey+decimal+system%22&hl=en&gl=us&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESgqeL-zEwfz5gVjfD4WSsNB2yfERYSsi5HGH9pUB670eZ8IpDcQ12nzjZn0cd6R2RKLeozlGlSwWhx2WjBkAnPX4E9CDpaeT3xAfF3LypzuqnrMsrvsuN0hgi26JMiWZlcjMK8E&sig=AHIEtbTHOV2yMTO6reix-uRjQc9tdHs2RA" rel="nofollow">The "Amherst Method"</a> and it seems Dewey was still tweaking the system in November of 1873 before actually trying it out the next month. If I read that correctly, your overdue card from 12/27/1873 is very likely the earliest record of Dewey's system actually being practiced. If they're using Dewey, it would be in the Field & plantation crops section.Benjamin L Clarkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00489486832142866020noreply@blogger.com
